LAST DEAL FOR 08 AT KROGER

Here is a great last minute shopping deal for 2008(thanks Lisa)....................

Buy 2 Herbal Essence Shampoo/ Conditioner (use (2) $1.00 coupons that expire today from P&G along with an e- coupon on Kroger's website)= Get 2 for FREE.

Im so excited, because last year at this time I was running out at the last minute for toilet paper (literally) but in 2008 I was introduced to the wonderful world of coupons. I am now so proud to say I am on my way to a well stocked home. ( toiletries, soap, detergents, paper products). Anyone who knows me, knows this is a problem area in my life, mainly because I thought you needed lots of money to stock up on things, boy was I wrong.

It is still so exciting every time I grab a great deal, on items my family use daily. So continue to join me in 2009 for more great deals on items for pennies or FREE.

My resolution for 2009 is to continue to learn all I can about this "coupon game" ! And of course my wish would be happiness and health for my family and I. Have a Blessed New Years Eve, and be safe!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SLACKING LATELY ON MY "COUPONS AND DEALS"

I don't know about you, but this season has me forgetting about "coupons and sales". I love to have all my gifts done by December and avoid the crowds if at all possible. I find myself wrapped up in the season so much I don't want to go to CVS for a sale. That's okay the Christmas season is a time to share with family and friends and anticipate the birth of Christ.

I am running low however on my "stockpiles" because of the lack of grocery shopping I have been doing lately. I need to dive into those piles of coupons on my kitchen table and start going through the ads. I will post later the deals that I come up with.

CHRISTMAS COOKIE EXCHANGE- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

So years ago a friend and myself thought it would be really cool to have a Christmas cookie exchange, but never got around to it. Last year her mother and her put one together and it was such a great time. It is now an annual event and tonight marked the 2nd Christmas cookie exchange. We all bring 10 dozen cookies and 1 dozen for sampling. Then we leave with 10 different dozen of cookies and have ourselves a great time visiting with friends in anticipation of the upcoming weeks before Christmas. It was a great time! What a wonderful way to receive a variety of cookies to share with friends and family or to just have aound your home for the holidays.

So you might want to think about starting a similar tradition with your friends and families. It is an event both my sister and I enjoy. ( Thanks Stacy and Lois for your hard work and wonderful memories!)

QUIET BLACK FRIDAY

Im sure you have all heard of all the great deals taking place on the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday). Lots of folks get up at the crack of dawn just to take advantage of these exceptional deals. I look at all the ads and I think WOW there are alot of great deals. As for me, im not much of a "crowd shopper" I love a great deal and all, but the thought of hour long+lines and shoulder to shoulder crowds does not do it for me.

If you on the other hand are up for thrill check out all the fliers that will be delivered today, in your mail and newspapers. I may post some of the highlights later today.
As for me and my family we are going to enjoy some family time at home. We have a tradition of putting Christmas things up around the house.

SAVE $ WITH A BROWN BOTTLE OF PEROXIDE!

I have been hearing alot about peroxide lately. Yes you heard me right, "peroxide". I guess I did not realize the many benefits that are packed into this inexpensive brown bottle in most homes.
Here is a list of some of the great things peroxide can do.

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of Mouthwash.

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day.

6. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

WOW, think of all the ways you can save money and help save the earth as well.

STOCKPILING FOR THE WINTER PART 1

Many of us have budgets we stick to every week for groceries. With fall here, and winter around the corner, now is the time to stock up. If you challenge yourself to spend maybe as little as $5.00- $10.00 extra a week, you just may grow a nice stockpile without breaking the budget.

Let me give you an example, lets say your grocery budget for the week is $75.00, by allowing yourself to go over budget by lets say$5.00-$10.00 you can collect alot of goodies and stash them away for later use.

For example this week at Meijer, there is a 10 for $10.00 sale going on with lots of variety of items to choose. That means each item is $1.00. My family loves cinnamon applesauce and it just happens to be a 10 for $10.00 item. My plan is to make a trip to Meijer this week and buy 11 jars of applesauce (you get the 11th FREE)

Now by stocking up on 11 jars of applesauce with as little as $10.00 this week you can be well on your way to a nice stash of goodies this winter.

If you put this plan into action every week until winter approaches you will have a nice stockpile of extra's to get you through winter.

STOCK THOSE CUPBOARDS!

Talking about stockpiling has got me thinking..................
Stay tuned for a series on stocking up for the winter. I will post some great tips to have your home well stocked through the bitter cold months that lay ahead. It would be great to have most household goods stocked so that you would not have to run out in an unexpected snowstorm.

I know that through couponing these last few months I have a nice stockpile of deodorant, toothpaste ,shampoo, conditioner, cleaning products, and soap. The great part is that most of these items were free!!

Stay tuned for this series as I help you stock up your home for the winter.

DON'T FORGET YOUR SUNDAY PAPER

In tomorrow's newspaper there will be 3-4 coupon inserts. That would be a great start for "new couponers" to get a nice collection of coupons going. I suggest picking up at least 2 papers. Remember if a sensational deal pops up, the more coupons you have for that item the more you can take advantage of it and start stockpiling.

So go out bright and early and get your papers!!

HOLIDAY COOKIE RECIPES

As the holiday months are just around the corner, all the festivities will soon be here. I found some free Holiday Cookie Recipe Cards. Some of you may be involoved in a cookie exchange, or for you top notch bakers, check out these new cookie recipes.

I know I need practice in the baking department, It is a work of art I need to practice mastering.
Enjoy!!

OLD NAVY SUMMER CLEARANCE

It is that time of year again, just when all the halloween and fall items are put out on display the summer clearance racks are marked down BIG TIME. This is the best time to pick up clothes for next summer, and when you start to stock up after a season it will seem like common sense. Old Navy has mark downs as low as .49 for kids tank tops and flip flops for next summer.

I know it is hard to get in the summer mode, but take a look at the clearance racks when you are out and about at any store. Some stores have sales as good as 90% off. You just can't afford to miss sales like these.

Stop by your local Old Navy store for rock bottom prices.

AMERICAN EAGLE = FREE MOVIES?!?!!!!!

Do you feel like shopping? How about trying on a pair of jeans and receiving a FREE movie ticket to AMC theatres? That is exactly what American Eagle stores are doing!! My sister just gave me this GREAT tip today (Thanks Lisa)! I did some research and found out that if you buy a pair of jeans you get 2 movie tickets. But heck trying on a pair of jeans that you may not purchase and then receiving a FREE movie ticket, sounds pretty good to me!

From what I have researched it looks like this is not a new deal, so this offer expires next week.
So if you have some time this week and want to take the kids to the mall, have them all try on a pair of jeans and then treat them to the movies afterward. You will be the coolest mom ever!

GREAT TIP TO SPREAD YOUR BLACKEYED SUSAN FLOWERS

When we first moved in to our home 5 years ago we planted a blackeyed susan plant that had 4-5 flowers on it. Well one of my good friends is in the landscape business and she told me to "sprinkle" the seeds in the center of the flower in early fall so that the flower would spread. Every year we "sprinkle" these centers along our flower beds and we have watched them grow year after year.
This is a great way to fill your flower beds or give some to your friends to do in their flower beds. They are hearty plants that last most of the summer and they are beautiful. What an inexpensive way to add to your landscape!

YAY! CASH4BOOKS

I just had my first experience with cash4books, and it was a great one! By nature I love to
"get rid of things" I no longer use or need. I love to give things away if I know someone can use them or I love to sell things for extra "mad money".

I thought the whole process with cash4books ran smoothly. You basically go through your books and enter an ISBN# on the back of the book to see if and how much you will get. There are so many ways to make extra money online and this is a great resource.

If you have any books you no longer use or need, click on the right hand side of this page and click on cash4books. You have no out of pocket cost, not even for postage!

RICHMOND GOOD OLD DAYS FESTIVAL

I just have to mention Good Old Days, for any local or metro detroit readers. This will be the 45th annual Richmond Good Old Days Festival. There is so much to do for the family all weekend long. Saturday highlights are the childrens parade at 11:00 a.m. on Main Street and the fireworks show at 10:00p.m and Sunday is the GREAT MICHIGAN PARADE, which starts at 1:30 p.m.

For more details check out www.richmondgoodolddaysfestival.org. There are just TOO many events to highlight.

Our family has been out here in Richmond for about 5 years now and enjoy this weekend very much. The children look forward to the parade every year. I remember our first year out here I wondered why I saw so many chairs lined up on Main St. the night before. Well, everybody picks their spot on Saturday by putting their chair out along Main St.

It is GREAT fun for the whole family and if you have not experienced it, come make new traditions.

Have a Great weekend!

EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 3

This week we are going to talk about detouring the snack foods. If you missed our previous series you can catch up on part 1 and 2 EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART1 and EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 2 .

Snacks and sugary boxes of food are high in sugars and fairly expensive if they are not on sale or if you do not have a coupon. Snacks can take up a big portion of your grocery bill if you allow them to. I try to plan the week of snacks in advance with the sales and coupons. For instance if nachos are on sale for $1.00 a bag, I will pick up a few bags and get shredded cheese and a can of salsa (all on sale of course) and now I have 2 snacks for the week right off the bat. Nachos and cheese melted in the microwave and nachos and salsa. By getting salsa on sale @ $1.00 and nachos on sale @ $1.00 (Krogers this week by the way!) and cheese on sale for say 3/$5.00, the total cost of this snack is fairly inexpensive.

Ive learned to pick up 3 bottles or so of salsa @ $1.00 and wait for nachos to go on sale for $1.00 or $1.50 a bag. The more you budget on your grocery bill the more you will know your bottom line price. For example I will not spend over $1.00 on a jar of salsa. Kroger brand and Meijer brand always have sales on this item for $1.00. Chi Chi's also has coupons all the time on their salsa. So the bottom line is stocking up on food when it is on sale and knowing your food prices and what items go on sale regularly. This all comes with time and experience in budget shopping.

Another way to detour sugary snack foods is stocking up on fresh friut and veggies. When baby carrots go on sale for $1.00 a bag grab 2 or 3 bags and plan snacks or lunch/dinners on this item. Carrots and ranch for dipping, raw carrots plain, steamed baby carrots, etc.

Fruits and veggies also fill you up quicker than salty chips or cookies. So your payoff will be less money on expensive snack foods and a smaller waistline. Stay tuned for EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART4.

EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 2

Last week we talked about cooking at home more often to save money on your grocery bill, you can see part one EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART1.

Today we are going to talk about a budget -friendly way to buy lunch meat for back to school lunches. To save money on chicken or turkey lunchmeat, I have found it cheaper to roast a whole turkey or chicken when they are sale. After it is cooked you simply slice it up and put it in individual baggies in the freezer.

This also works great for some mid- week dinner ideas such as casseroles. This is a whole lot cheaper than buying lunch meat at the deli and alot less sodium. By roasting a whole turkey or chicken you can buy lunch meat less often, as this should last you the whole month.

It's fun to see what you can come up with as the possibilites are endless, such as using marinades or BBQ sauces. Let me know if you have a tip on roasting a turkey or chicken, you can share your idea in the comments.

Stay tuned for EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 3.

EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART1

RITE AID FREEBIES

If you have not yet tried Rite Aid single check rebates, I think this would be an easy transaction for you to try. Basically Rite Aid does not have a store card you scan for discounts. Rite Aid offers single check rebates. It is a little complicated to start off, but you will easily get the hang of it after a few transactions and a little research. The nice thing about the rebate checks is that you will receive a check to spend however you would like, unlike ECB at CVS that have to be spent at the store. So if you would like to get FREE products and in the meantime generate some checks coming in every month I would recommend Rite Aid rebate checks.
The nice thing about Rite Aid, is that you can enter your rebate info online(saving on stamps and envelopes).

Here is the FREE deals....

Gillette Mens shampoo $4.49 -($1.00) coupon from Sundays paper ($3.49 rebate) FREE

Revlon nail polish $2.99 ($1.00 off Revlon coupon)= $1.99 ($2.99 rebate)= FREE + made $1.00

Getting a nice collection of coupons

People often ask how I accumulate so many coupons. So I thought I would suggest a few ways to start collecting them if you are new to coupons.

1. Buy a few papers on Sunday. If there is a great deal in the store, by having multiple papers you will have multiple coupons of the items you buy regularly or for the weekly specials that are on sale.

2. Ask people. My mom and a few friends just don't take the time to use coupons. So they give me their inserts from their weekend papers.

3. Look through magazines that you read. Alot of times there will be coupons in them.

4. Trade coupons with others. I have a few friends and sister who give me all the diaper coupons as I have a child in diapers.

5. Internet coupons. You can print and cut out coupons on the internet. You can check out the coupons on the right hand side of this page. (Just make sure you have a color printer). Most stores do not accept black and white printed coupons.

If you continue to do these things week after week you will be amazed at how many coupons you will accumulate.

FREE PHOTO BOOKS

I had Extra Care Bucks left over from last week and went to CVS tonight to spend them . I was so impressed with the photo book deal this week. They have two deals, one photo book is $3.99 and the other is $7.99. On either deal you get the same amount you spent back in Extra Care Bucks. So it is FREE. These are from digital photos and you can "create" a photo book with different backrounds.
I bought the $3.99 book and used my $3.98 ECB so i spent a penny and got back $3.99 ECB.
This deal is good until Saturday.
