When a free sample is posted some people might think " how is a small packet of a spice going to benefit me?"

I can't even begin to list all the FREE samples I have gotten in the mail this past year. In my thought, every little bit helps and you can't sign up for every FREE sample, because it does take time to research , find them and then fill them out. However, we have received some wonderful samples. It is nice to try new things, before purchasing them, and it is nice to get free things.

Like anything else you have to set some limits, I personally spend a few days a week for 10-20 minutes signing up for samples, this keeps my mailbox full and it is exciting to receive these goodies.

It is that time of year again, to start thinking of gardens and flower beds and how you want your yard to look. Garden Design Magazine is giving away a FREE 1 year subscription.

With all the money we have saved on groceries this past year, my husband and I think a garden would be great to do this summer and then can food for the fall and winter months. I am excited about getting started on this, more than just the tomato and herbs in my yard. I think planting enough tomato's this year to can would be great, considering the rising cost of a can of stewed tomato's. I think baby cucumbers for pickles would be a good idea too. I'm excited to see what we can grow this summer.

THIS WEEK- GROCERIES

My first week back to posting deals and I thought the stores were low on deals this week. I did take advantage of the Meijer sale, 10 for 10 get 11th FREE , they have Meijer brand products on sale, (no coupons) They also have Blackberries for $1.00 this week, so I did good in the produce and Meijer brand (Applesauce, their version of Funyons, white popcorn, microwave popcorn) All these things were $1.00 and pretty good for non name brand.

Speaking of name brand, I went into Kroger this morning for garbage bags and Hefty was $4.99 a box and the cheap Kroger brand was .77 for a roll of 15. I am one of those people who do not care about a strong durable bag, only because I throw it right into a garbage can in the garage when it fills up from the house. It got me thinking how much more money the good hefty bags were. How about you guys , is there anything you skimp on for other things. I like my name brand cereal, however with coupons I can still get them cheaper than store brands:)

IM BACK

It has been nearly 2 weeks since we have been out of computer service, so needless to say I have alot of catching up to do. My 2 year old son somehow managed to chew through a wire on our laptop and throw an internet server for our main computer, all in a matter of days:(

We have been trying to fix our laptop, and just today we got the part we needed for the main computer! YAY!

I got cans of corn for .19 each and cans of mandarin oranges for .19 each along with gourmet soup for .99 a can. I will be stopping by that shelf more often.

KITCHEN CABINET REMEDY

I thought it would be fun to share some remedies straight from the kitchen cabinets. Last week
I started to feel heaviness in my chest similar to the feeling of bronchitis. I researched some homeopathic alternatives to treat this "phlemy feeling" in my chest and throat. The findings were interesting and worked! Here is what I did.

Drank 1/2 teaspoon of onion juice(breaks down and thins out the phlem)

Drank tea with ground ginger(ginger helps for fevers)

Took a hot steamy bath (sweat helps fight infection)

Ate almond (Almonds are good for congestion)

I have a real interest for natural remedies, so this was fun to try. You think back in the old days, they did not have antibiotics. So this is really interesting to me.
How about you, have any of you tried some alternatives to the doctors and antibiotics? I'd love to hear.

This week Kroger is having their gallon milk on sale for $1.99, but I went to Meijer last night and their were plenty mark downs on 2% and Vitamin D galllon milk for .76 ! They have an expiration date of 3/4/09, plenty of time to drink it. I thought $1.99 was a good price, but you can't beat .76.

I frequently get a coupon with my receipt at Meijer that is $6.00 off an $80.00 purchase of groceries. Today my total was $81.00 , so I used that coupon first, then all my others and the total came down to$62.37!

Had I not used the $6.00 off $80.00 coupon first, the machine would not have let me use it. So keep that in mind when you insert your coupons.

I just stocked up again on 3 boxes tonight with my oldest daughter in tow and she was pretty impressed, she said "mom, we just got 3 of these for the price of 1". It will be fun to teach her the ropes on bargain shopping:)

NO COUPONS THIS WEEKEND

I thought I would save everyone the dollar you might be spending on the paper this Sunday. There were no coupon inserts. Maybe they will have a special on Monday for Presidents Day. We just need to be thankful for the 4 inserts that were in last weeks paper:)

SOMETHING I JUST LEARNED

I just recently found out that the Kroger coupons that come to you in the mail, can be used with a manufactured coupon as well. Example $1.00 off Sargento cheese (kroger coupon) .55 off Sargento cheese (coupon inserts) = $1.55 off Sargento cheese!

I guess I never realized beforehand that this could be done. I thought I would share it with all of you.

If you do not have a Kroger card sign up for one, and you will receive wonderful coupons in the mail. I just recently got a FREE Private Selection brand 1/2 gallon of ice cream and a Private Selection Pizza, $10.00 value!

FRUGAL SNACKS

With the rising cost of food lately, it has left me getting creative for snacks, especially after school. I usually alocate a certain amount of money weekly for meat, dairy, drinks, snacks etc...

Buying snacks can take a huge hit on any budget, so here are a few of my kids favorites that are actually quite inexpensive, and most of these items go on sale frequently.

Crackers and butter or flavored cream cheese. (Any saltine cracker)

Pretzel sticks dipped in mustard- flavored mustard or original

Carrot sticks dipped in ranch

Pretzel sticks dipped in ranch

Peanut butter toast

Apples dipped in peanut butter

Celery dipped in peanut butter.

Anything that has a "dip" is always a hit. There you have it, after the boxed items are gone for the week, these staples come in handy for snacks.

There is a great special at Meijer this week, I bought 3 boxes of Fiber One bars for $2.00 a piece, I had a .50 coupon for each one making them $1.00 a box, then at the register I got a $1.50 coupon for my next visit because I bought 3 General Mills products of granola bars. So I basically got 3 boxes for $1.50!!

Also there is Chex mix on sale for $1.00, use a .50 coupon and stock up on some FREE Chex Mix, I love doing that. Check out the coupon printables on the right side of this page, there may be a Chex Mix one left.

Another deal worth mentioning is the Hormel Chili this comes in a glass jar and is quite good, it is on sale for $2.50 and there is a .50 coupon in Jan inserts making this $1.50 a jar.

This week at Kroger, Multi Grain Cheerios are on sale for $1.67, there is a .50 coupon from Jan coupon inserts making a box of Cheerios=.67 a box!

How does FREE toliet paper sound? If you are interested check out the coupon bar on the right hand side of this page and scroll through until you find .50 off Cottonelle.

Kroger has a four pack of Cottonelle on sale for .99, use the coupon above and they owe you a penny. (they double upto .50)

Im sure a free pack of toliet paper does not sound too great, however it is this type of deal multiple times a week on different item s that make coupon cutting worth it. Like I have said before, I don't pay for toilet paper, hair products, most make-up, deodarant and most soaps, because I know the lowest prices these items go on sale for, then I use a corresponding coupon on that item.

MEIJER WEEK OF FEB 1

I just got back from Meijer to pick up a few things and they had their Meijer brand 10 for 10, 11th is FREE.

Luckily I had stocked up last week, because other than the 10 for $10.00 deal I did not feel that my coupons matched up on many already sale items. I do recommend you look in the refridgerated juice section, my Meijer had marked down Tropicana Tropical Punch for .60, with an expiration date of Feb 7.

This week there are a few good deals at Meijer worth mentioning, I haven't ventured out to Kroger yet this week, so I will update on that later this week. Anyhow here are some deals I scored at Meijer.....

Pepperidge Farm swirl bread (reg $3.59) on sale for $1.79 (use .50 coupon January insert)= .79 I stocked up on three of these and put two in the freezer, as I had three coupons.

Palmolive dish soap $1.29 (use.50 coupon Dec insert)= .29 dish soap.

Eckrich sausage $1.65(use $1.00 off 2 January insert)=$2.30 for 2 packs. (think Big Game Day)

Nabisco crackers 2 for $4.00 (use $2.oo off 2 coupon January insert)= 2 for $2.00 this was a great deal you can get Sociables, Wheat Thins, Triscuits, Better Cheddar etc..

I thougth it would be fun to list some frugal recipes later this week as I have picked up a few family favorites along the way. Stay tuned ..................

2009 ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS

Im just curious if many of you readers get the Entertainment book? We were lucky enough to get one from a dear friend, for FREE. So far I believe it has almost paid for itself. There were 2 "free crazy bread coupons " which we have already used and there are plenty of $5.00 off Meijer coupons if you spend $50.00.

I believe they are in the $30.00 range, but I do believe it is a good buy. We have used several Subway and McDonald coupons already.

So im just curious who has one of these books and what do you think about it?

.25 MUSTARD AT MEIJER

Okay, let's just say im glad I stocked up on certain items last week when Meijer had awesome deals.

There was nothing that got me to excited this week, however French's mustard and spicy mustard are on sale for $1.25. There were (2)coupons for .50 in Sunday's paper, making them .25 a piece. It is a nice week to stock up on mustard if you have multiple coupons (think summer bbq's:)

Don't forget to get your papers today. There are 3 inserts and lots of great high value coupons.

Remember to take advantage of most FREE deals, it is best to have more than one coupon.

For example if Chex mix is $1.00 and you have a .50 coupon (Kroger, Meijer) will double that, so in return you get FREE Chex mix.
Now if you had say 3 papers you would get 3 FREE Chex mix.

Some people argue about not wanting to spend money on multiple papers, but more than likely the papers pay for themselves.

This week at Kroger Suave shampoo and conditioner are on sale for $1.00 each! Back in Dec. there was .50 coupons for Suave products making these FREE.

If you don't have this coupon there was a .50 off 2 in last weekend's paper. That would make these 2 for $1.00.

Just for the record, I have NOT paid for shampoo- conditioner this past year. When deals like this come up for FREE I typically have multiple coupons for them (from several coupon inserts)

I just happen to have 4, so again, I will be restocking the hair shelf at my home, never having to run out and pay for shampoo im out of.

90 % OFF AT CVS

I just visited CVS this morning while I was waiting for the kiddo's to get out of Sunday school. They have 90% off of Christmas stuff. I picked up lots of wrapping paper for .29 and lots of other goodies for next year. My store still had quite alot to choose from. As usual Kroger runs there 4 pack Cottenelle toilet paper for .99. There are always .50 coupons in the weekend inserts making them FREE.

I have been doing this all December and so far in January. It is not the brand I am used to buying, but not spending a dime on toilet paper has been nice.

CHRISTMAS CLEARANCE

Just a reminder this is a great week to pick up some "picked over" Christmas stuff. Most stores are running at least 75% off (there is already Valentine stuff up) anticipating getting rid of this years load. Some stores are at 90%. This is great to pick up stuff for teachers or get pretty bows and ribbon for under $1.00, even Christmas cards. Lots of it is picked over, but let's face it 50 % off is not as exciting as 75-90% off.

Remember if you start picking things up throughout the year and put them aside you will never have to "buy into" the holiday shopping madness that begins in November every year. You will be that much closer to being done.

Thanks to a tip from my friend (thanks Char) I was informed that Steve and Barry stores are going out of business or most of them are anyway, and the one by our home had items very CHEAP.
