EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 3

This week we are going to talk about detouring the snack foods. If you missed our previous series you can catch up on part 1 and 2 EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART1 and EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 2 .

Snacks and sugary boxes of food are high in sugars and fairly expensive if they are not on sale or if you do not have a coupon. Snacks can take up a big portion of your grocery bill if you allow them to. I try to plan the week of snacks in advance with the sales and coupons. For instance if nachos are on sale for $1.00 a bag, I will pick up a few bags and get shredded cheese and a can of salsa (all on sale of course) and now I have 2 snacks for the week right off the bat. Nachos and cheese melted in the microwave and nachos and salsa. By getting salsa on sale @ $1.00 and nachos on sale @ $1.00 (Krogers this week by the way!) and cheese on sale for say 3/$5.00, the total cost of this snack is fairly inexpensive.

Ive learned to pick up 3 bottles or so of salsa @ $1.00 and wait for nachos to go on sale for $1.00 or $1.50 a bag. The more you budget on your grocery bill the more you will know your bottom line price. For example I will not spend over $1.00 on a jar of salsa. Kroger brand and Meijer brand always have sales on this item for $1.00. Chi Chi's also has coupons all the time on their salsa. So the bottom line is stocking up on food when it is on sale and knowing your food prices and what items go on sale regularly. This all comes with time and experience in budget shopping.

Another way to detour sugary snack foods is stocking up on fresh friut and veggies. When baby carrots go on sale for $1.00 a bag grab 2 or 3 bags and plan snacks or lunch/dinners on this item. Carrots and ranch for dipping, raw carrots plain, steamed baby carrots, etc.

Fruits and veggies also fill you up quicker than salty chips or cookies. So your payoff will be less money on expensive snack foods and a smaller waistline. Stay tuned for EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART4.

EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 2

Last week we talked about cooking at home more often to save money on your grocery bill, you can see part one EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART1.

Today we are going to talk about a budget -friendly way to buy lunch meat for back to school lunches. To save money on chicken or turkey lunchmeat, I have found it cheaper to roast a whole turkey or chicken when they are sale. After it is cooked you simply slice it up and put it in individual baggies in the freezer.

This also works great for some mid- week dinner ideas such as casseroles. This is a whole lot cheaper than buying lunch meat at the deli and alot less sodium. By roasting a whole turkey or chicken you can buy lunch meat less often, as this should last you the whole month.

It's fun to see what you can come up with as the possibilites are endless, such as using marinades or BBQ sauces. Let me know if you have a tip on roasting a turkey or chicken, you can share your idea in the comments.

Stay tuned for EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART 3.

EATING RIGHT WHEN THE BUDGET IS TIGHT PART1

In this series we will be talking about basic ways to save money on groceries and keeping more money in your wallet. There are plenty of ways to save at the grocery store, a big way to save is to cook at home and limit the number of times you eat out.

It is easier to cook at home if you have a plan for the week and well stocked cabinets. By coupon shopping you will stock up on items when they are on sale and you will begin to see your stockpile grow. If your tired of the same dinners and need some basic recipes read this 20 for 20 article for help on what to stock up on.

RITE AID FREEBIES

If you have not yet tried Rite Aid single check rebates, I think this would be an easy transaction for you to try. Basically Rite Aid does not have a store card you scan for discounts. Rite Aid offers single check rebates. It is a little complicated to start off, but you will easily get the hang of it after a few transactions and a little research. The nice thing about the rebate checks is that you will receive a check to spend however you would like, unlike ECB at CVS that have to be spent at the store. So if you would like to get FREE products and in the meantime generate some checks coming in every month I would recommend Rite Aid rebate checks.
The nice thing about Rite Aid, is that you can enter your rebate info online(saving on stamps and envelopes).

Here is the FREE deals....

Gillette Mens shampoo $4.49 -($1.00) coupon from Sundays paper ($3.49 rebate) FREE
